POSTING NUMBER: 002136 NATURE OF POSITION: Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Specialist II is responsible for performing accounting/auditing/bookkeeping work of more than average difficulty, often within a single function; may train and direct clerical employees in the maintenance of accounting records and financial reporting procedures as well as assisting with research, analysis, development, and summarization of financial information for audit and financial reporting purposes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Reviews, monitors, and processes a variety of fiscal transactions in support of general ledger and financial statements, grant reimbursements, state reporting requirements, and audit
  
• Posts to accounts, checks balances, review/reconcile accounts, and prepares financial reports and statements
  
• Assists in year-end closing and audit of financial records
  
• Assists other departments by providing information on fiscal matters
  
• Assist school bookkeepers and school administrators with school activity funds
  
• Performs audits of school activity fund accounts
  
• Performs audits of parent and booster organizations
  
• Assists in the development and maintenance of records and bookkeeping systems
  
• Answers telephone, provides information to the public and school staff
  
• Performs intermediate-level technical work in the preparation and maintenance of financial records
  
• Assists payroll with processing tax payments and other benefit payments
  
• Assists with payroll tax reporting/filings
  
• Supports the Danville Public Schools Education Foundation with accounting functions
  
• Performs a variety of related tasks as required and/or requested by immediate supervisor, Director of DPS Education Foundation and/or Chief Operations Officer

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by college level courses in bookkeeping and accounting and considerable experience in general bookkeeping;--Bachelor's degree preferred. START DATE: As soon after selection as possible SALARY / STIPEND: Pay Range: $20.79 - $33.26 per hour, depending on experience and advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost, in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance.
