Description: JOB TITLE: Sr Specialist, DesignJOB CODE: AS20210202-56003JOB LOCATION: San Leandro, CAJOB DESCRIPTION:The Applied Technologies Division of L3Harris, in San Leandro CA, focuses on developing cutting edge pulsed power systems, xray radiation sources, & high voltage switches & power conditioning components. These core technologies are applied to build systems for flash xray imaging, electron beam sterilization, and for simulating radiation environments, such as space or a nuclear blast, to study how electronics/optics are affected by xray radiation. The largest pulsed power systems built here produce millions of amps at millions of volts, delivered within hundreds of nanoseconds. Succeeding at these demanding conditions requires a talented team of curious, passionate scientists, designers, technicians, and engineers. The division conducts both R&D and manufacturing to serve a mix of government and commercial customers.L3Harris is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, creative mechanical designer to join our team designing and building the next generation of large pulse power machines. For reference see . These machines generate xrays to simulate radiation environments in well-shielded testing areas for nanosecond pulses. The ideal candidate enjoys the process of working with scientists and engineers to iterate on the entire lifecycle of an assembly including design, analysis, CAD modeling, fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing of systems. The ability to apply both standard and unique methods is necessary in this fast-moving research and development environment. Members of our team enjoy working together to find solutions to challenging problems, learning new science and engineering concepts and tools, and are happy to perform work outside of their job description when necessary to help move the team forward. As a senior specialist, the ideal designer displays ability to work independently, is self-motivated, takes full responsibility for their work, and can help lead or mentor more junior members of the design team. The designer typically works for a project manager, staff engineer or scientist, and could take on project management duties if that aligns with the skills and interests.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with scientists and engineers to design mechanical and electrical systems
  • Create CAD models of parts and assemblies
  • Identify and communicate solutions to design problems
  • Participate in design reviews, accepting feedback and communicating details about the design
  • Create drawing packages that adhere to company quality and release standards
  • Work with a cross functional team, including QC and purchasing, to order parts and assure delivered parts meet specification
  • Interface with vendors to inquire about schedule, cost, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Work with technicians and completed drawings for assembly of hardwareQUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-10 years of related experience
  • Extensive experience in ProEngineer
  • Extensive experience in PLM software such as Teamcenter/Windchill
  • Extensive experience in GD&T techniques and best practices
  • Capable of managing top level assemblies
  • Detail-oriented in creation of drawings and documentation
  • Comfortable with MS Office products
  • Familiarity with design of electrical or vacuum systems, o-ring seals, or water/oil tanks is a plus
  • Familiarity designing physically large parts and assemblies with thousands of parts is a plus
  • Any experience using FEM, or doing mechanical or electrical analysis is a plus
