Job Description:

POSTING NUMBER: 002165 NATURE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Director II - Professional Learning is responsible for planning and implementing a sound, systemic program of professional learning that will strengthen employees' knowledge and skills relative to increasing student learning and achievement.-- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the development, delivery, and implementation of a comprehensive division-wide professional learning program for all employee groups that is aligned to district goals and initiatives, to include the following:--

    • conducting periodic professional learning needs assessments
    • updating and enhancing the division's comprehensive professional learning plan
    • developing for each semester a program of professional learning offerings and conducting and/or facilitating professional learning workshops and seminars
    • conducting site visits to observe employee transfer of training into practice
    • recommending professional learning programs and activities to the Chief Academic Officer for approval
    • assuring that all professional learning practices are in accordance with state and federal law and board policy
    • administering an efficient system of professional learning record keeping, to include creating and maintaining computerized records regarding all training activities conducted and/or provided by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction
    • managing the information systems related to professional learning, to include working with the Information Technology Department, in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, to recommend changes or improvements to current systems
    • developing and continually updating professional learning communications, and diversifying these communications to appeal to targeted audiences
    • distributing professional learning communications in a timely and appropriately-targeted fashion
    • counseling the Chief Academic Officer on professional learning-related issues
    • initiating studies on issues related to professional learning and making recommendations in these areas to the Chief Academic Officer and/or carrying out studies directed by the Chief Academic Officer
    • working with principals, faculties, and staffs in individual schools and departments to ensure that professional learning goals and needs are met through carefully planned and implemented continuous improvement stratagem
    • serving as resource for site-based professional learning

    • Ensures that all professional learning opportunities and resources are aligned to professional learning pathways and criteria set by the school division
    • Analyzes and uses data to identify professional learning needs and evaluate, improve and report on program effectiveness
    • Collaborates with the Director II - Leader Quality to support principals in developing their own professional learning plans through regular consultation
    • Develops and/or coordinates leadership development for groups, including aspiring leaders, team/department leaders, and administration
    • Works with the Multimedia Communications Specialist to create, grow, and maintain an online library of tutorial videos
    • Communicates the goals, plans, and progress of the division professional learning program to all key stakeholders
    • Organizes, maintains, and supports professional learning communities throughout the division
    • Ensures all staff has learning opportunities that are aligned to their goals and role
    • Stays abreast of innovative professional learning techniques to provide the division with the highest quality of professional learning activities
    • Selects consultants to provide training services to meet areas of need for all groups
    • Develops scopes of work with consultants and monitors implementation of services according to those agreements
    • Develops and coordinates the professional learning budget
    • Performs other duties as required by the Chief Academic Officer
      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proven record as a master teacher. Demonstrated knowledge of theories of effective teaching. Thorough knowledge of the Virginia SOL. Content area knowledge and integration of SOL. Current in content, scientific/research-based instructional theories,--practices, and strategies. Demonstrated ability to observe and evaluate teaching practices. Ability to relate easily to teachers and administrators and to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of groups. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills. Knowledge of theories related to the adult learner. Ability to observe and assess the transfer of training and learning into practice. Above average organizational skills. Ability to problem-solve independently. Proficient in the use of technology. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited undergraduate program in education supplemented by a master's degree in education administration or a related field preferred. Must hold or be eligible for Virginia teaching license with endorsement in appropriate area(s). Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom/teaching experience. Successful experience in teaching/training adults. Successful experience as a school-based administrator preferred. START DATE: As soon as possible after selection SALARY / STIPEND: Salary Range: $89,395 - $129,623 annually, depending on experience and advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost, in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance.
