Sensitive Position No Job Description The Program Director is a faculty member who has primary responsibility to ensure that the mission and educational objectives of the College are attained through the Nursing program. The Nursing Program Director has leadership responsibility for planning, development, evaluation, and revision of instruction. This is a management position and involves the supervision and evaluation of all instructors assigned to the program. The Program Director has responsibility for effective administration and operations of the program. The Program Director reports to the Dean of Arts, Sciences and Business. Academic Duties include: Coordinate development and implementation of the curriculum including evaluation and revision of course syllabi. Ensure participation of all faculty in this process. Assure utilization of the syllabi in all courses. Promote high standards of excellence in all program activities. Evaluate effectiveness of the individual courses and overall program; make recommendations for improvements, additions, and deletions; maintain liaison with advisory committees and accrediting agencies as indicated. Create program goals yearly and plan strategies to accomplish goals consistent with the college mission and goals. Promote positive morale and team spirit with the faculty/students of the program. This will include interpretation and implementation of the college mission, philosophy, and goals to the faculty, students, and community. Coordinate recruitment, advising, and placement for students in the program. Maintain knowledge of major trends in nursing education and practice. Present selected course content in classroom setting and provide support to clinical instructors when needed. Shall maintain professional competence through such activities as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects and professional writing. Administrative: Supervise the overall operation and provide day-to-day coordination of the AAS Nursing program (including Traditional Entry Option and LPN -to-RN Transition Pathway Option) Supervise the overall operation and provide day-to-day coordination of the AAS Health Science - Practical Nursing Specialization program Develop and implement appropriate program guidelines and processes; recommend changes in college policies and procedures. Screen, interview, and recommend candidates for faculty and staff appointment, retention, and development. Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff objectively. Provide verbal and written feedback regarding performance to the faculty/staff member and College Administration. Coordinate efforts for staff, professional, and faculty development. Maintain adequate equipment, materials, and supplied inventory; develop specifications for health care equipment and supplies; and provide recommendations for learning resources, materials, and equipment. Complete required reports including, but not limited to: budget recommendations, class scheduling, faculty assignments, and state board and accreditation reports. Develop the class schedule of offerings, consistent with approved courses, contact hours, and credit hours. Review and revise catalog information and brochures pertaining to the program. Assure appropriate faculty assignment and load, registration assignments, and faculty participation in general College faculty activities. Coordinate faculty committees according to program policies and expectations. Manage cooperative agreements and community relations with clinical agencies. Maintain student records. Serve on college committees as appointed. Participate in appropriate professional, student, and community activities. Attend college-wide faculty meetings as scheduled. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications A master's degree in Nursing Minimum of two years of direct patient care experience. Prior administrative and teaching experience required Current unencumbered Virginia RN licensure Previous experience as a nursing faculty member Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in Nursing or higher education field Previous experience in managing a nursing program Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees Yes Required Travel Minimal travel may be required.
